Redensyl is a topical hair loss cosmetic product. It is used by some people to try to treat various types of hair loss, from female pattern alopecia to traction alopecia and alopecia areata. Like topical minoxidil and various supplement vitamins like, Nutrafol and Viviscal, Redensyl is an over the counter product that is used for hair loss.
What is Redensyl?
Redensyl is a topical solution that is composed of two patented molecules, DHQG and EGCG2. These two molecules are what you call ‘polyphenols.’ Polyphenols are a category of chemicals, derived from plants. Polyphenols can act as antioxidants (chemicals that stop or delay damage to the cells). Polyphenols also may influence gene expression and influence the bacteria in your gut.
How Redensyl Works
In studies reported by the Swiss company that makes Redensyl, Induchem, DHQG is said to stimulate the cells of the dermal papilla of hair follicles (where hair growth starts) and to protect the hair follicle cells from dying off. If the cells don’t die off, the follicle can continue to produce hair. DHQG is reported to drive the cells toward the anagen (growth) cycle and make follicles more efficient at growing hairs.
The other polyphenol molecule, EGCG2, is a derivative of green tea. EGCG, was found to decrease inflammation in the scalp. Too much inflammation in the scalp can cause hair loss. A lot of hair loss is driven by excessive inflammation. So if you can cut down on inflammation, you can help avoid some types of hair loss.
Redensyl also contains glycine (an amino acid in hair) and zinc. Both are important components in the formation of keratin, which is what your hair is made of.
Scientific Evidence
There is some data supporting DHOG as an antioxidant. EGCG has published evidence supporting its use for hair growth. The company that makes Redensyl claims that it not only helps grow hair in androgenetic alopecia, but that it also exceeds the growth from another popular topical hair growth treatment, minoxidil. In addition to growing more hair, it also claims to decrease hair shedding.
Products with Redensyl
Burst Growth Stimulating Serum, by Nourish Beaute and iRestore Anti-Hair Loss Serum are two fairly popular products that contain Redensyl. Keep in mind, however, that unlike Minoxidil, Redensyl is not FDA approved for female or male pattern balding.
